About Us
How It All Started...
On December 9th, 1983 in a lawyers office in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, a meeting was attended by Doug Worthington and three partners. This meeting was called to form a company "to start a business to supply art glass and supplies to Western Canada". Doug had spent his annual vacation on the Kona coast of the big island Hawaii, and Kona was one of the names submitted, and unanimously accepted and thus Kona stained glass Ltd. was born.

The company purchased the Stained Glass Division from Trans Canada Glass and opened for business in Vancouver at 2nd & Commercial on January 3rd, 1984. Our opening was well received by the industry and it was soon necessary for us to move into larger premises. On July 1, 1985 we moved to our current location in Vancouver at 33rd and Knight where we remain til this day.

For the first few years Kona delivered glass and supplies to their out of town customers, including customers in Alberta, then in the fall of 1989 we opened a branch in Sundre Alberta, where it too remains to this day.

Over the years Doug Worthington purchased the company shares of his original partners and then on August 25th, 1998 sold shares to his three sons, and thus Kona Stained Glass Ltd. became a family business.

The company has grown considerably over the years and now has nine employees in BC and Alberta. Both Vancouver and Sundre have recently enlarged their premises.
